After closing out his first regular season at TCU with a 62-14 win over Iowa State to finish 12-0 on Saturday, Sonny Dykes believes his team has proven that they are worthy of their lofty ranking and a possible spot in the College Football Playoff.

The Horned Frogs were left out of the playoffs after losing to Ohio State on the final weekend of the rankings.

"I'm familiar with the history with both Iowa State and Texas Christian University," he said. It didn't work out in the end. I'm aware of that. I don't think it is the same. I don't believe college football is the same. The Big 12 is viewed differently now than it was in the past.

After Ohio State won the Big Ten, the committee took into account the Big 12's lack of a title game. The Big 12 has eight bowl-eligible teams and no divisions where you might get a good draw and miss some of the league's better teams.

"It's a big deal," he said. People who study the game are aware of how good the league is. To be able to win road games and grind through some tough moments is a good sign for the football team.

The Big 12 hasn't had a 12-0 season in five years.

The Frogs scored 62 points against an Iowa State team that was eighth in the nation in scoring defense and had only allowed one team to score more than 30 points. Three other teams scored at least 20 points.

The senior quarterback, who was 17 of 24 for 212 yards and three touchdown on Saturday, has had a good season. He passed for 3,070 yards, 29 touchdown and three interception, and rushed for five more. In the history of the Big 12 there has been only one other quarterback with more passing touchdown and less than five turnovers.

"I think anyone that has watched us this year knows what he means to our football team and program," he said. He deserves a chance to get to New York.

After nearly a month of securing a spot in the Big 12 title game, the Frogs can turn their attention to the game.

His 83rd career win was the most by a father and son in the same year. He isn't ready for the season to end.

"I want to play as many games as possible with this group because I think we'll figure out a way to win them," he said.
