Anthony Davis is out of the Lakers game against the Spurs because of a left calf contusion.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham said before the game that he was kicked in the second half and it was a little sore. Keeping an eye on it and taking our time with it. He is out.

His replacement was Thomas Bryant.

In Los Angeles' win over San Antonio on Friday, Davis had 25 points, 15 rebound and 3 blocks, continuing a hot streak in which he has averaged 33.4 points on 64.4% shooting, 18.6 rebound and 2.6 blocks in his last five games.

"Just being a back-to-back, the load he was carrying, specifically with James out, it's just the smart and right thing to do." We don't want to put him in harms way early in the season. It can turn into a year-long issue if you're talking about different muscles. We do not want to put more strain on the area.

I agree that it was the right thing to do.

After missing more than half of the Lakers' games the last two seasons because of various injuries, Davis stated during training camp that his goal is to be able to play all 82 games.

Davis will miss the Lakers' 18th game of the season on Saturday. He missed the Minnesota Timberwolves game because of back pain.

James would play Saturday after missing five games with a groin strain.
