Donovan Edwards ices Michigan's win with 2 long TDs (1:10)

Edward scored from 75 and 85 yards out. There is a time and a place for this.

The beauty of Saturday's game between Ohio State and Michigan is that it was more than just a rivalry game.

The average Big Ten team has less skill position talent than the flash and speed of Ohio State.

The Jeep is a rugged machine. Runners win by running over opponents.

The script that played out Saturday might have led to the Big Ten title game for the Ohio State football team.

Jim Harbaugh's team showed it isn't a one- trick pony. On Saturday, Michigan was a perfect example of how to cast against type and play the part well.

In the end, Michigan ran the ball for 252 yards, forced two Ohio State turnovers, and held the Buckeyes to 5-of- 17 on third and fourth down. Harbaugh has rarely shown that level of brazenness in the course of his coaching career.

He didn't touch the ball in the game. The big plays were delivered by McCarthy.

Harbaugh benched McCarthy for McNamara in favor of the more versatile sophomore back in September, in order to give McNamara more playing time. McCarthy used his run game in a series of completely predictable wins against lesser opponents, like a poker player waiting for the right hand to go all in.

McCarthy was dealt ace after ace.

The Michigan team had just 12 completions of 30 yards or more all year. McCarthy threw four of them against Ohio State.

If McCarthy's shredding of an overmatched Ohio State secondary wasn't enough, Michigan used its linebacker-turned- running back to throw a 15-yard jump pass on third down in what was less a play call and more akin to slipping a whoopee cushion onto Ryan Day's It was intended to humiliate as much as possible. It's the beauty of a rivalry.

It was bad enough that Michigan's punting team dunked on the Ohio State players.

As shocking as Michigan's reversal on offense was, Ohio State's way of cashing in its chips down the stretch was even more shocking. The Michigan running back scored on runs of 75 and 85 yards on consecutive drives in the second half as the Michigan defeated the Ohio State. If Ohio State had kept the game close, fought to the end, and taken Michigan to the brink, there would still be a reasonable case to put the Buckeyes into the College Football Playoff.

The epitaph on their season will be "Lost by 22 at home to that teaX up north."

It's difficult to say what this means for Michigan. The sacrifice of a lamb just happy to live long enough to get a free trip to South Beach before getting whipped by Georgia was what made last year's playoffs so special.

There was something more to the 2022. Harbaugh seemed like a hedge fund manager at a Vegas craps table, all gas, no brakes, tipping the waitress with $100 bills on every glass of milk she brings. While Ohio State was unable to maneuver the foothills in its souped-up sports car, Michigan was able to run it down your throat. While the Ohio State Buckeyes were knocked out of the running for Georgia's throne, Michigan may have made a statement that will be felt in other Big Ten countries. The team is good.

Gamecocks ice the ACC

There was a time when the South Carolina offense was terrible. Our national nightmare of waiting for Taylor Swift tickets and not knowing where Nebraska was was a different era. People had only seen the movie twice. Since that time, a lot has changed.

South Carolina's offense was in a state of disrepair when it was humiliated by Florida in November.

The USC offense is the hottest in the country and Spencer Rattler looks like he's going to be in 2020

After trouncing 5th ranked Tennessee 63-38 last week, the Gamecocks put on an encore performance against 8th ranked CLEMSON and ended the conference's playoff hopes.

South Carolina's special teams recovered the fumbled ball.

Rattler completed 25 of 39 passes for 347 yards and two scores and added a third on the ground.

DJ Uiagalelei was a mess, completing 8 of 29 throws, as the tigers turned the ball over three times.

Will Shipley ran for 132 yards on the ground but only had two carries in the last four drives.

North Carolina lost to NC State in double overtime in the final game of the season, and will be playing in the championship game.

South Carolina will finish the regular season ranked in the top 25 and have enough cache to warrant some serious buzz heading into their bowl. The Gamecocks won eight regular season games for the first time in more than a year and ended a seven-game losing streak to the Tigers.

Rivalry round-up

The weekend is rivalry weekend. Some of Saturday's rivalry games went poorly. A full rundown is what we have for you.

The Iron Bowl was played between Alabama and auburn.

Boo Corrigan looks out the window of his room at the Gaylord Hotel where the playoff committee is set to meet one final time.

There is a fog over a graveyard. There was lightning. thunder crash boom

The ground is moving suddenly. There is a clenched fist with championship rings on it's fingers.

"My God," he exclaimed. It cannot be.

The face is clear as the moon rises. The person is him. He's still alive.

It's a long shot but we're not giving up on Nick. The man isn't broken.

Young will be in New York for the event. He will not win it, but he has been great.

The rivalry was known as the Civil War.

The game was tied at 17 with 13 minutes to go.

Oregon State took a four-point lead with eight minutes to play.

What is it that this can be done? It was a lot of fun. The 43-yard run was the one that set up the third-quarter touchdown. The Ducks settled for a field goal after having the ball first and goal at the 10. There was a big kick return and face mask penalty. Oregon State recovered a fumbled ball. The failed fourth-and-1 conversion gave the ball back to Oregon State in the middle of the field.

There was more than one guy. Oregon State deserved a hero, but he isn't one. He's the one who saved it.

Kentucky won the Governor's Cup with a 26-13 score.

The Governor's Cup was won by the Wildcats for the fourth year in a row. What this means for Scott Satterfield's future at Louisville will be the big question for Cardinals fans, but the more important question is how the trophy for this game is different.

Georgia 37, Georgia Tech 14 was clean, old-fashioned hate.

Georgia Tech took a 2-0 lead into the second quarter. That is a huge success. Winning this game is an unreasonable metric. Georgia can now focus on the SEC championship game, where Bennett can become the first player in school history to score a touchdown in three straight games.

Boilermakers beat Indiana 30-16 in the Old Oaken bucket.

The Boilermakers will play in the Big Ten Championship game. The Boilermakers are un ranked. No other program has a better record against top- two opponents than the Boilermakers. Next week, the Boilermakers will play the second ranked Michigan. Something could go wrong.

The Land of Lincoln trophy went to Illinois.

Remember when Nebraska was stunned by Northwestern in the first week of the season? In that game, the Cats scored 31 They didn't top 24 in any games. The team scored 22 points in November. We might have made fun of Iowa all this time. The 2000 St. Louis Rams are the same as the Iowans.

The Axe was written by Paul Bunyan.

What to think about Minnesota's season. The advanced metrics were a big fan of the University of Minnesota. It was not easy to actually win games. Minnesota scored 23 points against Rutgers andNorthwestern after a four-game winning streak. After Wisconsin had dominated the rivalry for much of the previous 25 years, the Gophers were able to win the axe for a second year in a row. We appreciate all the trophies that can be used to fell trees. There are more schools that should consider getting a trophy.

Freeze ends cold

Liberty lost to Wake Forest on a failed two point try.

Since then, the wheels have come off, and Hugh Freeze appears to still be flying down the highway, with wheels sparking, bumper hanging off, and heading to auburn.

If the Freeze era at Liberty is over, there is a chance that this departure, following a 49-14 loss to New Mexico State, is worse than the one at Ole Miss.

Three weeks ago it was thought that Freeze would be the next head coach at the University of Alabama.

Do you think now is the right time? It's difficult to blame Freeze for Saturday's result. In the past 20 years, New Mexico State had only beaten one team from the top tier of college sports.

Liberty has had a lot of embarrassment over the last three weeks. We didn't fact check that, but we think it's correct that the first loss was to Connecticut and that the Huskies bowl eligibility was the first since the Taft administration. Then came a loss to a Virginia Tech team that hadn't won in over a month. New Mexico State demolished it's entire state.

There's a lot more going on than just three meaningless games. Ensuring the tigers get a coach who will happily collect a $40 million buyout is the most important thing on the Plains.

Big bets and bad beats

It was a foregone conclusion that the Tigers would win against South Carolina. When the team was favored by two or more, the coach was 62-1. The Gamecocks don't pay much attention to history. They don't care about other things. South Carolina won with a money line payoff of +450.

A person dropped $753 million on a money line bet. It wasn't all that smart.

Largest reported Michigan-Ohio St game: $753,535 Buckeyes moneyline (-315). Bet was placed Friday in New Jersey with @WynnBET. It would win $239,214.

Michigan's win will cause a lot of problems on Sunday mornings in Ohio and Las Vegas.

It looked like Oregon State's chances of beating Oregon were slim. The city of vegas agreed. A $100 bet on the Beavers to win would have paid out $2,500. Oregon State came back from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win 38-34, giving anyone who still had faith a nice payoff.
