At least one person is dead and about a dozen are missing after a slide on the coast of Italy.

Buildings, cars, and buses were washed into the sea on the island of Ischia at the port of Casamicciola. Residents of the island were urged to stay indoors.

The New York Times reported that there was at least one death.

Matteo Piantedosi, the interior minister, later said there were no confirmed deaths at that time.

The outlet reported that between 10 and 12 people are still missing.

The situation is complicated and serious because some people are under the mud, according to Piantedosi.

The weather made it difficult for rescue workers to get to the island, but 70 firefighters and 44 doctors made it.

Antonio Tajani thanked the rescue workers who risked their lives to land on the island.

Rescue efforts are expected to last into the night according to the head of the Civil Protection Agency. 70 people have been evacuated from their homes.

Curcio said the night hours are on the way. This will not make our work simpler. It was difficult today because of the weather.
