With their backs against the wall after a loss to Saudi Arabia, Argentina players were saved by the play of Lionel Messi.

Messi scored in the 64th minute and assisted on Fernndez's goal in the 87th minute to give Argentina a 2-0 win over Mexico and keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Messi's goal was a wonder strike from outside the box that beat the goalkeeper low and to the right to give Argentina the lead.

Frank Isola of the YES Network commented on Messi's "magic" when he was given the chance to score.

All Messi needed was a little bit of space to create one moment of magic.

Messi equaled the career World Cup goal total of Diego Maradona when he scored his second goal in the World Cup.

Despite several high-quality opportunities, Argentina was unable to add to its lead against Saudi Arabia. The team did not make the same error on Saturday.

Fernndez scored in the 87th minute after Messi fed him to give Argentina a 2-0 lead.

One of Messi's best World Cup matches was when the pressure was at its highest.

Argentina is tied with Saudi Arabia for second place in the group with three points. Poland leads the team by a single point.

The only way for Argentina to advance to the knockout stage is if they beat Poland.

Argentina entered the World Cup as one of the favorites to win, and while the narrative changed quickly after losing to Saudi Arabia, Messi put his team right back in the mix in what is almost certainly the 35-year-old's last World Cup.
