This time it strikes again. Frontier Airlines was removed from Amex's airlinenywayanyday. Premium cards like the Amex Business Platinum and the personal Platinum cards give you these credits. For things like seats, bags and lounge access, the first $200 you spend is credited off. It works for a lot of other things as well. Frontier Airlines charges fees for everything, so it was an easy choice. If you fly with Frontier, burning $200 in credit was easy. I went to the airport last week to book some flights and saved a lot of money.
I could have chosen Frontier Airlines as my choice for airline on one of our new Business Platinum cards, which have been really annoying, but I was on the ball. Anyone who already chose Frontier is grandfathered in until 2023. This is no longer an option for people to choose their airline for the first time. The date seems to be November 21st.
I was going to add a carry on bag for my wife and use the credits to select our seats. It would give us more space than the 4 backpacks we're going to use. I could have put it on the back burner.
I don't know why American Express took them out. It had to be something more than the fact that they were easy to use at Spirit Airlines. I don't think Amex's breakage played a big part in this. I don't think Frontier was a really popular choice.
There are losses in the column. It's like going to sleep and not booking that award flight. When you wake up, those flights won't be there. I don't believe anyone saw this coming. If it happened at the end of the year, I would have expected it. The consumer doesn't like having less options.
