The gold was taken from a museum in Germany.

The Celtic Roman Museum in Manching was broken into and 483 coins were taken.

The largest discovery of Celtic gold coins in the 20th century was made in 1999 when the coins were unearthed in Germany.

At a press conference held by the State Criminal Police Office and the public prosecutor's office, it was revealed that fiber-optic cables were cut in the early hours of Tuesday. Thousands of homes lost internet and phone access.

The alarm system at the Celtic Roman Museum was disarmed. An escape door was forced open at the museum nine minutes after the wires were cut.

The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office is looking into how strange people were able to gain access to the regional hub and sever fiber-optic cables.

The minister for science and art in the province said that the raid was a catastrophe.

"You don't just march into a museum and take this treasure with you," said Blume.

There is a suspicion that we are dealing with a case of organized crime because it is highly secured.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the head of the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection warned that the loot may be melted down and sold for just $260,000 in gold.
