The day after Thanksgiving is expected to bring in $9 billion in online sales. It would be a new record.
6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Shoppers spent billions of dollars at websites. As much as $9.2 billion is possible before the day is over, according to Adobe.
The record-breaking spending comes on the heels of a strong day of Thanksgiving shopping, in which consumers spent a record $5.29 billion online. In a day, shoppers spend $2 billion to $3 billion online.
Shoppers were buying Apple products such as watches and AirPods, smart speakers and televisions, espresso machines, and gaming consoles.
Mobile shopping hit a record high this year, accounting for more than half of online sales on Thanksgiving Day. The company predicts that these sales will make up over half of Black Friday sales.
Consumers put more items in their carts due to strong discounts. During the season, the order volume was up. Deals as high as 33% off were offered for toys.
The numbers may be a sign of things to come. Retailers reported a lull in sales in October and early November.
Black Friday weekend is usually associated with the biggest deals of the holiday shopping season.
Cyber Week, the five days from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday, will generate around $34.8 billion in online spending, according to Adobe. Cyber Monday is expected to be the biggest shopping day of the year with sales expected to top $11 billion.
