A US Coast Guard helicopter plucked a man from the water off the coast of New Orleans.

The Coast Guard said that the man survived up to 22 hours treading water in the Gulf of Mexico. The man was in stable condition on Friday, according to the 8th district.

Ryan Graves is a public affairs officer with the 8th District. It's a Thanksgiving miracle to be able to pick someone up after that long in the water.

The video of the rescue was posted by the Coast Guard.

"Cruise ships have safety barriers in all public areas that are regulated by the US Coast Guard and prevent a guest from falling off," said Matt Lupoli, a public relations officer for Carnival Cruise Line.

People shouldn't climb on the rails. Lupoli said that the only way to go too far is to climb up and over the safety barriers.

According to a statement from Carnival, the man left his sister at the bar to use the restroom at 11 pm on Wednesday.

According to the statement, he was reported missing by his sister at noon on Thanksgiving. The staff searched the ship for the passenger until a last call was made at 2 p.m. The passenger was reported to the Coast Guard at 2:30 p.m.

Carnival said the Valortraced its route to support the search and rescue.

According to CNN, a bulk carrier called CRINIS spotted a person drifting in the waters south of Southwest Pass, Louisiana.

The man was lifted from the sea at 8:24 pm after being missing for 22 hours. The man could walk, communicate, and identify himself even though he was showing signs ofDehydration, according to the Coast Guard.

"The fact that he was able to keep himself afloat and above the surface of the water for such an extended period of time, it's just something you can't take for granted and certainly something that's going to stick with me forever," Gross said.

He said that the case was unlike anything he's been involved in.
