FIFA assures fans rainbow colors are allowed at World Cup

Fans were reassured that rainbow colors are allowed in the stadiums. Following an exchange with the Football Association of Wales, it was announced that fans with bucket hats and rainbow flags would be allowed into the stadium. The Independent reported that the rainbow flag won't be banned.

Fans in rainbow flag clothing were denied entry to the stadium because of their attire. A U.S. journalist had to change his shirt after being told he had to remove his bucket hats.

Despite assurances from World Cup officials that LGBTQ+ expression would be allowed, this hasn't always been enforced. Seven European teams removed the bands from their uniforms after being told that they would not be allowed to enter if they wore LGBTQ+ clothing. The World Cup is welcome to everyone, but it hasn't been followed up on by football's governing body.
