There were many reasons why this game was so popular.

The Giants and Cowboys are two of the most popular teams in the US.

The game featured two teams that were in the playoffs. The Giants are in year one of a rebuild, but they've engineered a surprising start and sport wins over a pair of division leaders.

The Cowboys have the top scoring defense in the league. Dallas appears to have a chance to make a deep playoff run with the help of its defense.

The game was competitive until the end.

The Giants took a 13-7 halftime lead, but the Cowboys scored three times in the second half for a 28-13 advantage. The garbage-time touchdown by New York ended the game.
