According to park officials, a hiker died while her husband went looking for help.

According to a news release from the National Park Service, a couple started their 16-mile trek through The Narrows on Tuesday.

A husband and wife stopped at the north end of the paved trail that leads from the Temple of Sinawava to the Narrows.

According to the man, they became dangerously cold overnight and experienced symptoms consistent with Hypothermia.

The release said that visitors farther up the Narrows gave cardiopulmonary assist to the woman before the search and rescue team arrived.

The 31 year old woman was pronounced dead despite first responders giving her emergency aid.

The woman's cause of death is being investigated by officials from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, and the National Park Service.
