Mercedes-Benz plans to offer an online subscription service in the US to make its electric cars faster.

Some of the company's vehicles will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60mph a second faster.

BMW had a subscription feature for heated seats.

"Acceleration Increase" will not be introduced in the UK according toMercedes.

It will be available for purchase in the US on a number of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

The Mercedes US online store says that the feature electronically increases the output of the car's motor.

It estimates that this increase in output will allow the Mercedes-EQ 350 SUV to accelerate from 0-62mph in about 5.2 seconds.

Jack McKeown is the president and editor of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers.

He said that when you pay a monthly subscription for a phone or broadband, you are paying for the company to maintain the network.

"Mercedes is asking you to pay for hardware it has already installed in the car, and which it presumably already made a profit margin on when you bought the car."

I hope there is a consumer backlash against trying to leverage even more profit out of subscription services.

In July, BMW faced a backlash when it announced that customers could pay £25 a month to have their seats and steering wheels unlocked.

Some Toyota drivers will have to pay $8 per month to remotely start their car.

"Acceleration boost" is a one-time fee of $2,000 that allows the Model 3 vehicles to accelerate from 60 mph to 200 mph in half a second.

There is no date given for the release of the Acceleration Increase subscription on the US Mercedes storefront.
