Omega, Bond's preferred timekeeper since 1995, is releasing a pair of Seamaster Diver 300M watches with a subtle tribute to Bond's Hollywood appearances.
James Bond has used a wide variety of gadgets during his adventures, but sometimes he shows some brand loyalty. It is a good example of Bond's affinity for the British car maker. Since the character's return in 1995's GoldenEye starring Pierce Brosnan, Bond has only worn Omega watches from the Seamaster Diver 300M collection.
It isn't the first time a traditional timepiece has created a special edition to honor a pop culture property. Do you remember the Mario kart watches? Omega hid the most obvious Bond tribute on the back of its two special edition Seamaster 300M 60 Years Of James Bond watches.
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 60 Years Of James Bond watch is a blend of the original Omega Seamaster Diver 300M and the latest edition from No Time To Die. It isn't an exact recreation of the piece that Brosnan wore in Golden Eye, but it does incorporate elements from several Bond films. There is only one hint that this is a Bond themed watch, and that is at the top of the dial.
It is only when you flip the watch over that you can see its true colors. The caseback has a window that shows an animation of the opening of a Bond film where the silhouetted character walks on screen as seen through a gun's barrel. There is no display of liquid crystal or liquid crystal displays here. The Seamaster Diver 300M is a mechanical timepiece that Omega used to create the animation. The animation mechanism plays in a loop if the watch has power and time.
