The property is known as the Latah School or the Union High School and is located in Washington.

According to the National Register of Historic Places, the main building is one of the oldest and best preserved rural brick schoolhouses in the Palouse farming region.

The school was converted into a space for community events and town meetings in the 1960's. The property has been in the hands of many different people.

HRC Ministries is a non-profit organization that has used the space as a transition home for victims of human traffickers, according to the agent.

HRC Ministries was founded in 2015 as an outreach ministry but has since evolved into an anti-trafficking organization.

The director of development at HRC ministries told Insider that the former school building was used as a safe house for women who were survivors of human traffickers.

They were able to receive counseling and learn new skills at the property.

The property was purchased due to it's rural location.

According to the listing, the Latah School is over 15,000 square feet in size.

"Because we work with traffickers, we thought that having a place to rest and relax while having a large room to themselves would be great for their recovery."

The Latah School building was purchased in 2019. They put the property up for sale in March of 2022.

The median listing home price in Latah is $450,000.

There is only one single- family home for sale in the area. The prices for land plots range from $30,000 to $175,000.

HRC is moving the shelter closer to the city and is selling the Latah School.

The property is close to a major city in Washington state.

We needed to move closer to the city because we underestimated the number of women that would need emergency services.

Two of the large family rooms were once classrooms.

The previous owners converted the space into a family home and a wedding venue, Newman said.

The items in the basement from World War 2 were kept the way the previous owners had left it. Emergency items include medical supplies.

A new roof and sewer line were installed by HRC ministries.

The gymnasium was added in the 1920s. In 2000 it was restored with new paint and a new floor.

There is a basketball hoop on one end of the gym and a stage on the other.

The ladies used the gym to release stress by working out, playing basketball, and listening to music.

She said that it was a place for them to have fun and sing loudly.

Future owners of the property can either live in it or use it for short-term rentals because of the license it has.

Newman said that an ideal buyer would be someone who takes into account what the community needs.

She said that it would be someone who would appreciate the building and take care of it.

Several interested parties have inquired about opening the gym for school proms and community events, she said.

It was a place of peace for the ladies to escape to.

It was difficult for some people to accept that they were worth the cost of living there because of its grandiose appearance and feel.

With most of the women coming from a life where they have been beaten down, the property gave them a sense of safety.
