The fastest selling games in Nintendo's history are the new mainline entries in the Pokémon series. Both physical and download versions of the two games sold 10 million units in their first three days of availability. Within the first three days, this is the highest global sales level for any software on any Nintendo platform.
It is not a perfect comparison, but Nintendo said that Animal Crossing: New Horizons had the best start for a Nintendo title ever, after it sold 17.37 million units in the 11 days after it was released. In a third of the time, the latest Pokémon titles have sold less than half of that, putting it on track to outsell Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, which sold 6 million copies in their first weekend.
Sony claimed that God of War had become its fastest-selling title with just 5.1 million copies sold in its debut week.
The launch of Pokémon's latest entries has been met with poor technical performance on Nintendo's five-year-old console. For most people, more Pokémon is enough to forget about technical issues.
