NBC News projected Wednesday night that former Alaska Gov. SarahPalin was defeated in her bid to represent the state in the US House of Representatives.
In less than three months, she lost two elections for Alaska's at-large House seat.
The winner was determined by ranked choice voting in Alaska.
The special election for the seat was held in late August. The office was vacant due to the death of Don Young.
The first Alaska Native in congress was Peltola.
In the election for a full two-year term, she had to face a repeat of her first race against Alaska's governor.
There was a nonpartisan primary in June.
None of the candidates received more than 50% of the vote. The winner was determined by ranked-choice voting, which was approved by state voters.
After her first loss, she called the ranked choice system a mistake. It was shown by ranked-choice voting that a vote for Sarah Palin was in fact a vote for Mary Peltola.
Alaskans don't have enough support forPalin to win an election
Barack Obama and Joe Biden were elected president and vice president, respectively, two years ago, but John McCain chose to run against them for the presidency.
The governor of Alaska resigned less than a year after the presidential election after ethics complaints against her became a problem.
