According to state election officials, Rep. Mary Peltola won the race for the sole House seat in Alaska.

The Associated Press projected Murkowski and Peltola as the winners after Alaska election officials revealed that Murkowski and Tshibaka were in a close race.

According to the Associated Press, with 99% of the ballots counted, Peltola held a significant lead overPalin, with 48.7% of the first-round votes.

The race was thrown into a second round of counting after the top two vote-getters were redistributed based on voter turnout.

The former governor of Alaska, who was John McCain's running mate, blamed the "radical left" for inflation and a surge of migrants at the U.S.- Mexico border.

She became the first Democrat to represent Alaska in 50 years and the first Alaska Native to be elected to congress when she defeated SarahPalin in a special election in August.

Multiple candidates in the same party are allowed to appear on the ballot for the same race. Three Republicans were in the Senate race. According to the Associated Press, Murkowski had held a narrow lead over Tshibaka with 99% of the vote counted. The Democratic candidate took in over a tenth of the vote.

There were two Alaska races that Trump was involved in. He supported the congressional run of the former governor after he served as a vocal Trump ally in his 2016 campaign. After she became one of only seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump, she was censured by the state Republican Party. The GOP's hopes of regaining control of the Senate and securing a strong lead in the House were dashed as the Trump-backed candidates struggled. The Trump allies lost Senate races in Pennsylvania, Nevada and Arizona. 18 of the 39 key races were won by Trump-endorsed candidates. A few Trump-backed candidates won important races.

In August, three months after Trump endorsed her, she advanced to the election. The state's ranked-choice voting system is a "very, very potentially fraught with fraud system" that allows "liberals to skip on in", according to an interview with former Trump advisor SteveBannon. After McCain lost the 2008 presidential election, it was her first time in national politics in more than a decade. During her three years as Alaska's governor, she faced a number of ethics complaints, which she dismissed as "frivolous" and politically motivated.

In a rare move, Murkowski, much the moderate Republican, endorsed Peltola in her race againstPalin, saying she would rank her first in the state in the ranked-choice voting system. She pledged to rank her first when she voted.
