LATAM just opened reservations for a new route to the US.

LATAM adds Los Angeles route in July 2023

LATAM will launch a 3x weekly service between Sao Paolo and Los Angeles on July 1, 2020. The flight's schedule will be listed below.

LA8087 Los Angeles to Sao Paolo leaves at 1:00PM and arrives at 3:20AM.

The flight is blocked in two directions. The north and south flights operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The route will feature 410 seats. Business class seats and economy class seats are included. LATAM has a new business class on all of its jets.

How this fits into LATAM’s route network

The third route to Los Angeles for LATAM will be from Santiago. This will be LATAM Brazil's fifth route to the United States out of Sao Paolo.

There isn't a nonstop link between Los Angeles and Sao Paolo right now.

  • Back in the day Korean Air was the only airline to operate this route nonstop, as the airline had this as a fifth freedom flight
  • More recently, American flew the route nonstop, but it didn’t last long, and was pulled as American has scaled down its long haul presence at the airport
American Airlines used to operate this route

Delta has bought a stake in the airline. The airline might think it can make this route work with Delta connections.

There is a lot of demand between Sao Paolo and Los Angeles. There are a lot of connecting options and the fares are quite low. LATAM has good connections on both ends, but it isn't easy to fill a plane with 400 seats. I would like to know if this route lasts or if it gets pulled.

Bottom line

LATAM is going to start a new route between Sao Paolo and Los Angeles in July of 2020. This market doesn't have nonstop service because other airlines haven't been able to do it. The west coast of the US to Brazil is difficult. LATAM has a tie up with Delta.
