House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday called for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign over his handling of the migrant crisis at the southern border.
McCarthy said during a tour of the southern border that his actions have produced a wave of illegal immigration. I am calling on the secretary to step down.
He said that he couldn't stay in that position. "If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action and every failure to determine whether we can start an impeachment inquiry."
McCarthy said that he had spoken to Jim Jordan and James Comer, the ranking Republicans of the Judiciary and Oversight Committees, and that they had his full support to investigate the collapse of the border.

More than 5,000 people were arrested in a recent operation and it has worked with other countries to find solutions. It announced cooperation with Mexico that includes the return of Venezuela's nationals under Title 42.
A federal judge ordered the expansion of Title 42 to be wound down after finding it to be in violation of the law. There is a plan to deal with the end of the order, including greater use of other methods of removal, in response to concerns that the end of Title 42 could lead to more migrants crossing into the US.
