After demanding verified users pay a monthly fee to keep their checkmarks, the social media platform's new CEO is reportedly refusing to pay up on some of his company's own bills.
According to the newspaper, hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel expenses and office space have not been paid. The phone calls of travel vendors have been left unanswered by Musk's staff.
It's one of many questionable ways Musk has used to balance the budget at a company he's paid a lot of money for. The richest man in the world has had no problem with using either the most ruthless or most frivolous methods of saving an extra buck since he took over the company.
According to the NYT, an employee wrote on the company's Slack that "Elon has shown that he cares only about recouping the losses he's incurring as a result of failing to get out of his binding obligation to buyTwitter."
According to confidential sources, Musk is withholding money from other outside vendors and not paying lease on the company's office space.
The philanthropic projects have gotten the short end of the stick. Since Musk's takeover, donations to non-profits which relied on the company's goodwill are no longer visible.
Free lunches, real estate, and the computing infrastructure are some of the other cost-saving targets.
Corporate credit cards given to employees were canceled by Musk. Some people worry that Musk won't reimburse them after they use their personal cards to pay for travel expenses.
This may be shocking to outsiders, but it's not the first time Musk has taken over a company. Even if it doesn't go bankrupt, he's not winning many hearts and minds or the trust of advertisers.
According to reports, Musk has been hiding that he is the owner of part of the social networking site.
