The Portuguese player is leaving Manchester United immediately.
The decision was made following an interview in which he said he had no respect for the manager.
Both parties said that the exit ofRonaldo was mutual.
Manchester United thanked him for his contribution to the club.
"Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Eric ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch", they said in a statement.
The opening game of the World Cup for Portugal will be captained byRonaldo, who is also with the team at the tournament.
When the transfer window opens in January, he will be free to sign for another club because of his departure from United.
"We mutually agreed to end our contract early after talking with Manchester United," said a statement fromRonaldo.

In his TalkTV interview last week, he stated that he felt betrayed by the club and that he was being forced out of the club.
Last Friday, United responded with a statement saying they had begun appropriate steps.
