50 of the 500 drones in the display fell into the river below, according to Joshua Van Ross, managing director of the show. By the time the display had finished, the Drone Sky Show had lost over a hundred thousand dollars in equipment.
There are things that go wrong if there is wind interference, according to Van Ross.
He said that last night was not normal. The possible cause of the drones not flying is being investigated.
I am trying not to think about it, but it was an expensive show for us.
The divers were sent into the river the next day to try and catch the drones, but it is unlikely that they will be able to fly again.
The aerial light show took place over water and at least 120 meters from the nearest onlookers, so the people who turned up to watch it were never in danger.
Light shows using the machines have become more and more popular, in some cases taking the place of fireworks-based events, due to the advancement of drone technology and the increasing complexity of software.
It will be interesting to find out what caused so many drones to fall out of the sky in Perth on Sunday.
