England's Luke Wright plays a shot during the 2010 T20 World Cup
Luke Wright was part of the England side that won the T20 World Cup in 2010

Wright is a former all-rounder for England.

Wright will be in charge of squad and team selections from the Lions and Young Lions when he takes on the role in March.

Rob Key brought back the role after it was abolished by his predecessor.

Wright said it was a huge honor.

The right hander played 101 times for England. After what has been a great year for England men's cricket, I can't wait to get started and contribute.

Key, who was appointed in April and has led a selection panel in the interim, stated that he would like to return to the role.

Key, performance director Mo Bobat, player ID lead David Court, red and white-ball coaches and captains, and Wright will pick teams.

Key said: "I'm happy that he's going to join the team."

He will be an important voice in squad selection, as well as helping to identify the next generation of England stars, with his experience of playing in England and overseas as well as his knowledge of county cricket."

It's an exciting time for England men's cricket, but there is a lot of hard work to be done if we are to build on what has been an exciting year.

Wright will be in charge of all domestic cricket in the summer and will have a say in central contracts.

He will work closely with the science and medicine team on player availability and programming.
