Mark Kelly is a Democratic senator from Arizona.
Kelly was asked by the Washington Post if Democrats have understood the complexity of the problem.
Kelly told the paper that it was not true. It wasn't even close.
He said there are a lot of Democrats who don't understand the southern border and a lot of Republicans who just want to talk about it. Don't do anything about it but use it politically. My approach has been to the extent that we could and can, but also doing it in a way that is in line with our ethics and our values.
Kelly, who was elected to his first full term in office earlier this month, said he continues to talk to his Republican colleagues about how we have to do more.
He said that if you're a farmer in Southern Arizona, you don't have the visas available and it's a problem for them.
He said that the country would benefit from immigration reform. A lot of Democrats don't understand it and a lot of Republicans just want to talk about it and use it for political purposes
He said that there were enough of us who wanted to accomplish something.
The number of illegal border crossings last fiscal year was a new record.
Texas governor Greg Abbott has been sending busloads of migrants to sanctuary cities up north to draw attention to the crisis at the border. There was a bus from Texas to Philadelphia last week.
Abbott said that the busing strategy has provided much-needed relief to the border communities overwhelmed by the historic influx of migrants. Texas will continue to do more than any other state in the nation to defend against an invasion along the border if the Biden Administration does its job.
