The results are within the poll's margin of error, but slightly more favorable for Warnock than for Walker, when he netted 48.6% of votes compared to Walker's 48.5%.

The poll was commissioned by the American Association of Retired Persons with the help of the political research firm and Impact Research.

The senator netted the support of about half of the independent voters in the election, but Walker has seen a boost among independent voters since the election.

Walker still leads among the demographic margins by a wide margin, despite the fact that more white voters have moved towards Walker since the election.

Walker leads among voters over the age of 50, with 53% supporting him compared to Warnock's 44%, and younger voters skew towards him (61% between the ages of 18 and 49 back him, compared to 42% for Walker).

There is an error in the number 84. That is the percentage of voters who are very motivated to vote. Democrats are more likely to be motivated to vote than Republicans.

Key Background

After neither candidate got the majority of votes in the election, they will face off again on December 6. The Senate contest has yet to be decided. Democrats and Republicans have both won 50 seats. The results in Georgia will determine if the Democrats will have an advantage over the Republicans. Democrats will not need a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Harris to pass legislation if Walker is elected, and may need to rely less on conservative Democratic senators such as Joe Manchin of West Virginia. The Senate leaning slightly in favor of Republicans in the final weeks before Election Day has created internal finger-pointing, with many prominent Republicans blaming former President Donald Trump for endorsing candidates who were defeated in several pivotal races. Trump re-upped his support for Walker when he announced his candidacy for the presidency.

Walker had a runoff in the Georgia senate race.

The next session of congress will be affected by Democrats' Senate win.
