Beth Mead's participation in the World Cup is in doubt due to an injured knee.

The forward has scored 37 goals in 102 appearances for her club and 29 goals in 50 for her country, securing the top goal scorer award with six during Euro 2022.

The injury happened during the Manchester United game. The forward had contributed an assist for team-mate Frida Maanum during the game, but was replaced deep into second-half injury-time in a match that saw the winning start to the season ended.

The 27-year-old will visit a surgeon in the near future.

"We can confirm that Beth was injured in our match against Manchester United on Saturday and is out for the rest of the season," the statement said.

Beth is going to be on the sidelines for a long time. She will see a doctor in the next few days.

Everyone at the club will be working hard to get Beth back on the field.
