Rapid reaction

1. Saudi Arabia cause one of the biggest shocks ever

Even though Argentina don't start the World Cup well, this was a huge upset. It was one of the biggest shocks in the history of the competition when Saudi Arabia scored twice in five chaotic minutes early in the second half.

During the first half of the game, Saudi Arabia looked like a team clinging on for dear life after being dominated by Argentina. But goals from Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari -- a right foot effort that flew into the top corner and an early contender of goal of the tournament -- capped a remarkable comeback.

Argentina lacked composure and precision in front of goal when the motivation was on them to come back.

Argentina lost in the opening game of the 1990 World Cup, but still made it to the final. The campaign was supposed to be different after the team won the South American title and went on a 36- match winning streak. It looks like they will make hard work of the group stage like they did at Russia.

2. Argentina only have themselves to blame

Lionel Scaloni's side should have been out of sight at the half-time break. With a bit more care, they could have been up by a lot more.

Mohammed Al-Owais made a good save. They had three goals, two from Lautaro and one from Messi, that were ruled out because they were not in line with the rules.

Saudi Arabia came into the World Cup with a reputation of not scoring many goals. They didn't register a shot in the first half, but they were able to beat him twice in the second half.

Argentina had more than 30 minutes after falling behind to force a draw or even win the game, but they quickly used crosses into the box which the Saudi defence mopped up with ease. Argentina will still believe they can qualify for the knockout rounds despite the fact that they did not start well.

3. Saudi Arabia back up fans' confidence

Saudi Arabia supporters crossed the border into the country in large numbers in hopes of replicating their performance at the 1994 World Cup in the US, when they made it to the round of 16.

They were the only people who believed in it before the tournament started. Most of the supporters who traveled to the Lusail Stadium early on Tuesday morning admitted they were not expecting much from the game against Argentina.

They started to defend like a team that kept six clean sheets in the qualification rounds. Four years have passed since Saudi Arabia's last World Cup, where they were thrashed by Russia in the opening game.
