In the first half, Christian McCaffrey played 25 snaps to Elijah Mitchell's three, but that was Kyle Shanahan's plan all along. Mitchell was used as a second-half closer by the Niners and he was joined by McCaffrey.

The Cards fell to 4-7 after a game that could have changed their fortunes. Four years into Kliff Kingsbury's tenure, the offense is still a work in progress, as evidenced by the fact that the Cards didn't pull themselves closer to the last playoff spot.
