ActivityPub is an open social networking protocol that is used to power social networking software such as Mastodon and PeerTube. In response to a complaint, the news was revealed. The CEO of automattic suggested that the user come to the site as it was about to add activitypub for interconnect.
He said that support for "Interop and activitypub" was due to come "ASAP" and that the first thing they had to deal with was the waves of new users.
This announcement means that Tumblr will become a part of a larger social network of sorts, and one whose user base has grown in size in recent days as people flee Musk's Twitter in search of new communities

The ActivityPub protocol provides a client-to-server and federal server-to-serverAPIs for creating, updating, and deleting content. Mastodon users can interact with and follow other users on other instances and on other social apps that support the implementation of ActivityPub. It makes for a web of social networks where users can find each other and follow each other.
If you re-upload or share a link to the other site where the content can be found, a post on one platform can be seen by everyone else.
Users on Mastodon could follow posts from their own Mastodon instance if ActivityPub support is added to the Tumblr app. It could also give Tumblr users an entry point into the so-called fediverse without having to face some of the difficulties associated with signing up for Mastodon.
Data.ai reported earlier this month that Tumblr had grown its U.S. app install rate by 7 days after it was acquired. According to Sensor Tower, as of 12 days after the acquisition, there were 301,000 downloads, up from 170,000 before.
According to The Atlantic, Mullenweg said that the number of downloads of the app on the App Store was up after Musk took over.
Before Musk took over, he had been thinking about how Tumblr could compete with the social network.
He had said earlier this year that he wanted to make the site a place for art and artists.

The person already has some experience with ActivityPub.
Automattic contributes to the open sourceWordPress.com as well as the open source Tumblr. ActivityPub is a plug-in for self-hosted websites. Readers can follow their posts on Mastodon and other social platforms using this method. If ActivitiyPub support was added, it would be possible to imagine a similar situation.
As to how this support would be added, Mullenweg didn't give an hour's notice.
