Suspected Colorado shooter is the grandson of this California Republican Assemblyman

The grandson of a California lawmaker is the suspect in the Colorado Springs nightclub shooting that left five dead and 25 injured.

According to a report from the San Diego Union- Tribune, the suspected shooter is the son of Laura Voepel, who is the daughter of the assemblyman.

Voepel's office didn't reply to The Bee's request for comment

Voepel was locked in a race for his seat against another Republican, Marie Waldron, because of the redrawn district. As of Monday morning, 67.8% of the votes had been counted.

Voepel drew a lot of attention for his comments after the attack on Congress.

This is the city of Concord and the city ofLexington. Voepel stated that the first shots were fired against tyranny. President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in on January 20.

Voepel said he didn't support the violence and lawlessness of that day.
