Once the Republicans take control of the House, they will have the power to investigate the president.

The Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Shalanda Young received a letter from the top Republicans on the House budget and education committees.

They requested that the OMB preserve all records related to the president's plan to change the federal student loan program, which included his announcement to cancel up to $20,000 in student debt for federal borrowers.

The Biden Administration needs to be as transparent as possible with the American people on the projected costs and economic impacts associated with these policies, particularly how such fiscal impacts were taken into consideration as policy specifics were debated and finally determined. Americans deserve to know if OMB considered how these actions would make inflation worse after a full year of raging inflation.

Republicans gained control of the House and are likely to investigate the Biden administration. Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, told Fox News that he was interested in investigating how Biden handled the Pandemic and the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

Student-loan forgiveness is on the list because it requires Congressional approval. They supported the lawsuits that put a stop to the debt relief.

The OMB is being asked to preserve information about the timing of Biden's August announcement of debt relief, the impact of inflation on US taxpayers, and the cost of the relief per month.

The fate of student-loan forgiveness is in the hands of the courts because House Republicans won't have enough votes to overturn a veto from Biden.

The legal process could take months, so the Education Department is considering extending the student loan payment pause again. The department appealed the decision of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to stop the pause on Biden's debt relief. In the meantime, the department has begun notifying borrowers that their applications for relief have been approved
