After the Bears' 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, quarterback Justin Fields had to have his left shoulder examined.
Fields injured his non-throwing shoulder on the first play of the Bears' last drive when he rushed toward Chicago's sideline. The quarterback was slow to get up after landing hard on his left shoulder. Fields was hit in the head by the helmet of the Falcons defensive tackle as he slid on a run play.
The Bears lost their chance at a game-winning drive when Fields threw a pass that was tipped off the hands of running back David Montgomery and into the grasp of the Falcons safety.
Fields was taken to the Bears locker room for an X-ray and treatment after the game. Fields didn't wear a sling and didn't know the extent of his injury during his post game news conference.
Eberflus said they would have an update on Wednesday. We are going to look at it because we don't know what it is.
Fields said that he had a left shoulder injury. The quarterback said that Sunday's injury was not the same as the one he disclosed in October.
Fields said that it was the final drive of the game. I was trying to be there for my teammates.
Fields doesn't know if he'll be able to play through the injury or if he'll miss a game. While throwing with his right arm, Fields felt that the injury to his left shoulder affected his throwing motion.
Fields said the pain is bad. I will take it one day at a time and see how it goes.
Fields carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards and a touchdown against the Falcons. He was 14-of-21 and had a touchdown.
Fields ran 14 times in the first half, the most by a quarterback since 2000, but his mobility waned as the game wore on. He ran twice on Chicago's last drive. He had five scrambles in the first half, but had no in the second.
