A fast food worker lost an eye after she defended her co-worker's brother from a bully.

This is not something I would have expected. I stepped in and I don't think I regret it. Bianca Palomera said it could have been worse for her coworker's brother.

According to the news outlet, Palomera witnessed a man bully her co-worker's brother, who has special needs.

Palomera stopped the man from harassing the boy, who was waiting for his brother to get off work, when he turned his attention towards her.

He was threatening to beat him up and asking why he kept looking his way. Palomera said "it's not right what you're doing" when he stepped in.

Palomera fought back when the man hit her in the face and she was hit several more times.

Palomera told NBC Bay Area that he was punched by the man.

According to security footage posted on Facebook by Palomera's sister, the man quickly left the restaurant after Palomera separated herself from him.

Palomera underwent emergency surgery after being rushed to a trauma center.

Palomera lost her right eye due to the injuries she sustained during the incident.

A man put a hand on a woman. It went to and caused a lot of damage. She was trying to stop a special needs person from being mistreated.

As of the time of writing, the campaign set up by Palomera's sister had raised over $100,000.

Habit Grill said in a statement that they prioritize the safety of their team members and are planning more assistance for Palomera.
