I had never been to Arizona before this year.
Red rocks, hiking, spiritual practices, and overall sense of adventure were just some of the things that blew me away.
I'm going to go back soon and I think it's a great place to go.
I've never been to Arizona before, but I was blown away by the city's red rocks, hiking trails, and sense of adventure. I'll be going back soon.
My husband and I traveled to Arizona to attend a friend's 40th birthday party.
We decided to go a few days early so we could spend some time together and explore the area.
We were impressed by the outdoorsy nature of the city and its rich red rocks, hiking trails, and overall sense of adventure.
We're going to plan our next trip back.
I thought that the sun was a nice respite from the cold weather in Northern Michigan.
I originally thought the desert landscape would be warm. The weather in Arizona in winter wasn't as hot as it was in Florida. In February, the average high in the area is 50 degrees. It felt quite warm to us, even though it was still 30 degrees warmer than where I live.
It's not unusual for snow to fall in February at 4,350 feet elevation.
It felt like perfect weather for hiking in the winter as the temperatures were mild.
We wore hats, gloves, and a thin coat when we hiked to the Cathedral Rock. We lost some layers when we bouldered to the top.
We visited in the winter and would like to come back again. It would be too hot for me to go hiking in the summer. I would visit when the temperatures are warm but not as hot as summer.
Seeing the red rock formations made me feel really strange.
The Schnebly Hill Formation is a striking red rock formation that is only found in the Sedona area. The pillars behind the red-orange sandstone formations were left by the erosion.
I thought the mountains and cacti along the way were beautiful when we arrived in Phoenix, but I was taken aback by the formations when we reached Sedona. It felt like we were on a different planet to me. The red rock formations looked to shoot straight up into the sky in obscure shapes, which made the landscape stunningly beautiful.
We are going to extend our visit to see the surrounding area because we loved the geography so much.
The Pink Jeep Tour is a popular activity. I thought it was a great way to see the area and would do it again.
The Pink Jeep Tour is where visitors climb into a bright pink Jeep as the driver and tour guide boulder you up icons in the area.
Depending on how long you have, there are different tours to choose from. People over the age of two can participate in these tours.
It was not possible to see all that the landscape had to offer because we traveled to Sedona for a long weekend. I thought it would be fun to get into a bright pink Jeep to maximize the view.
A group of five couples piled into two Jeeps and headed for a two-hour tour that cost $132 per person. The driver made us all feel safe and entertained us. He told a lot of stories for first-timers.
We had a panoramic view of the red rock shooting up to the sky at Chicken Point overlook on our tour. The thrill-seekers rode their bikes along the edges.
I would love to join a longer pink jeep tour to see more sights.
Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock are two of the most popular hikes in the area. I wanted to return to hike more in the area after I enjoyed them.
Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock are some of the most popular hikes in the area. They can be very busy at certain times of the year.
The hikes were not crowded with people because we traveled in February.
The Red Rocks pass costs $5 and can be purchased by the hikers.
You don't need to be a marathon runner to hike to the top of Cathedral and Bell rock.
We are not accustomed to hiking inclines. It was difficult for us to ascend to the top. The challenge was very rewarding because the hikes were different from what we are used to.
We had to boulder up red rocks to get to Cathedral and Bell Rock and I had to stop a few times to catch my breath. I thought it was worth the effort once we got to the top. I was in awe of the views from there as we could see all of Sedona. I would love to come back so I can hike more.
There is a belief that the red rocks of Sedona are the source of spiritual practices. I may have found one myself.
The red rocks of Sedona are not the only things known about the area.
I did some research before I arrived. A vortex is an energy spot where people can heal, do yoga, or meditate.
I wanted to try and find them, but it wasn't the main reason for my trip to Sedona. I think it's fun to learn about this type of energy and see if you can find one.
When we hiked to the top of Cathedral Rock, it gave me what I thought was a supernatural feeling. I remember standing at the top and seeing the city in a whole new way.
My husband said he didn't think he was special. The power may come from within the individual. I would love to see more of this side of Sedona.
I think it's a great place to vacation with friends and family.
After visiting both elements on our trip, I think it's ideal for many types of trips. I think there's so much to offer in the area.
After a long day of hiking, my husband and I rented an apartment on the side of the road that was a scenic spot to stay before dinner or after a long day of partying.
After the rest of the group arrived, we moved to a bigger place. The men played golf while the women had a spa day. In addition to hiking, spa days, and golf, we experienced many other things.
The whole time we were there, my husband and I talked about how great it would be to have our two kids there as well.
The trails were well marked, one of the main reasons I want to return to hiking here.
I worried that it would be hard to see where the actual trail was and which direction to follow because some of the hikes in Sedona are solely on red rock.
There are intentionally placed stacks of rocks on the trails that help hikers navigate.
These are great for someone who doesn't want to go off trail in an unfamiliar area. They were helpful when we hiked to the top of Cathedral and Bell Rocks because there was no dirt path and only red rock to guide us.
The sunsets in Sedona were dreamy and I hope to see them again soon.
Friends told me that the sunsets in Sedona were beautiful. I didn't know how much that was true until I saw them. They were stunning.
The Airport Mesa is one of the places I recommend to watch a sunset in Sedona.
The overlook parking costs $3 per vehicle. We hiked a little less than a mile down the Sedona View Trail to get to the vista where the sun doesn't fall.
As opposed to some of the bouldering we did, like at Cathedral and Bell Rock, this felt like a more traditional trail to me. The Airport Mesa was busy in February as groups of people walked down the dirt path to catch a glimpse of the sun setting behind the red rocks.
After the sun set, our group walked back to the car down the same path in the dark.
I hope to return to the area soon to see that sunset again.
