In February, Mark Stoops' base annual salary will be increased to $8.6 million, thanks to an amendment to his contract.

The 10th-year coach, who is earning $6.35 million this season, signed a new deal a day before the Cats lost to the Commodores. The clause that extended his contract by one year if Kentucky won seven games and 10 games was deleted.

If Stoops leaves the program before June 30, his buyout will go from $1.75 million to $4.5 million.

According to a release posted on the school's website, the agreement had been in the works for more than a month.

Stoops stated in the release that he was excited for the future and that he had loved it here.

Winning the national championship and reaching the College Football Playoff semifinals are included in the revised contract.

In Kentucky's victory over Florida in September, Stoops became the school's all-time winningest coach with his 61st victory. After opening the season with four wins, the Cats have lost five of their last seven, including Saturday's 16-6 home defeat against Georgia.

After the regular season ends, Kentucky will await its seventh consecutive bowl assignment.
