In a new interview, former House Speaker Paul Ryan called himself a "never-again Trumper" and blamed former President Donald Trump for Republicans' under performance in the recent elections.
In an interview on This Week, Ryan said that the Trump factor was the biggest factor in the GOP's disappointing results.
Ryan said that the GOP would have won more races if their candidates were more conservative.
In recent years, the GOP lost majority control of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the presidential election.
If Trump were to win the nomination, Ryan predicted the Republicans would lose the election in four years.
Trump, who announced his intent to run for president for a third time in 2024, has faced backlash from GOP power players in the weeks since the election over his choices of candidates. Christie and Romney are two of the Trump critics who have tied the GOP's losses to Trump. GOP megadonors who supported Trump before will not support him again. Ryan told Fox Business in October that he doesn't think Trump will win the GOP's nomination in four years.
Ryan said McCarthy, who was nominated last week to become the next House speaker, will be hard-pressed to pass legislation with such a "razor-thin majority" in the House. Ryan said that the slim majority will unify the party even if the bill is not passed on the floor.
After the launch of Trump, another billionaire megadonor splits from the president.
Here are the other GOP leaders who have left Trump after mid-term losses.
