According to The Washington Post, a top attorney in Arizona contacted law enforcement about a threat from the campaign of a losing candidate for governor.

The accusation has been denied by Lake's campaign and the RNC.

During a phone call, Lake was projected to lose to his opponent. A lawyer for the Republican National Committee demanded answers from the county attorney on a number of issues. Phoenix is part of the county.

The RNC attorney told the county attorney that there were a lot of irate people out there and that Lake's campaign couldn't control them.

Liddy, a lifelong Republican who heads the county's office for civil litigation, told the Post on Friday that he considered the comment a threat and informed the sheriff and the county attorney.

Liddy told Ben it sounded like he was threatening him, but Meher denied.

You won't be able to tell the crazy people that I've been helpful if I don't get these answers quickly. I don't care. Is that clear?

The Lake campaign secretly recorded the call and posted two minutes of it on the social networking site. The whole recording was not released by the campaign.

The posting of the recording did not include the threat reported by Liddy, but it did include the denial that he made. Liddy's summary of the threat and his "no more threats" admonishment were included.
