The results of the election are getting worse for the right-wing pundits who predicted a red wave. Democrats took control of the Pennsylvania state House on Friday for the first time in 10 years. Josh Shapiro and John Fetterman won their races for governor and lieutenant governor, respectively.

Attorneys for both the Democrats and the Republicans in close races have been haggling over the remaining ballots. We were told for months that the election would be devastating for Democrats because of their focus on abortion rights.

The issue of abortion is a winner. Not only did Democrats maintain control of the Senate and stave off major losses in the House on the federal level, but results at the state level were even more decisive. Arizona elected a Democratic governor, attorney general, and Secretary of State. Democrats flipped the Michigan legislature blue, as well as reelection of the governor and attorney general. Democrats in North Carolina fought off a Republican super-majority that could have ended the abortion ban. In Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, Michigan, California, and Vermont, abortion rights won on the ballot.

Voters in Pennsylvania know that state-level and state-wide elections are important for our health and right to bodily autonomy.
