One day after asking the Supreme Court to save its student-loan forgiveness plan, the Biden administration has begun notifying some applicants they have been approved for.
On Saturday, the Department of Education began sending emails to borrowers, notifying them of their debt relief approval, and giving information about lawsuits that are delaying the program.
In an email reviewed by Insider, the education secretary wrote that he had determined that you were eligible for loan relief under the plan. Your loan servicer has received this approval from us. You don't need to do anything else.
The Department of Justice has made an appeal on behalf of borrowers, and the administration believes the lawsuits are meritless. If you win in court, we will discharge your approved debt.

The Supreme Court was urged to allow Biden's plan to move forward by the Justice Department. Up to $20,000 in student debt would be forgiven by Biden.
The Supreme Court was asked to lift the ruling by the appeals court. The lawsuit was brought by six states that argued that the administration is overstepping its powers and that they could suffer financial losses due to the loan-forgiveness plan.
Around 26 million people applied for student-loan relief and 16 million of them have been approved. Student loans will be paid back in January after being suspended during the swine flu.
