The New Mexico State - New Mexico men's basketball game was canceled after a 19-year-old man was killed and a 21-year-old man was wounded at the University of New Mexico.
At about 3 a.m., a shooting occurred. The wounded man was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not made public.
Albuquerque police said the shooting wasn't a threat to other students.
The department said that this is not an active shooter.
There was a shooting near a student dormitory and the university sent out an alert.
Police are investigating a shooting. Authorities did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the community despite the fact that the investigation was in the preliminary stages.
The University of New Mexico athletic director said in a statement that there was a decision to delay the basketball game.
"Our thoughts are with all of the people who have been affected by this tragedy," the statement said.
The rivalry game between the Lobos and the Aggies had been scheduled for 7 pm. The athletic department said more than 12,000 tickets had been sold.
