The Buffalo, New York, area has been hit by a lake-effect snow storm that has dropped more than six feet in spots, shutting down travel for some highly populated areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the highest total so far is 77 inches at the suburb of Buffalo where the Buffalo Bills play.
More than 17 inches of snow fell at the Buffalo airport on Saturday, more than doubling the previous record snowfall total.
The airport is open but most of the departing flights have been canceled or delayed.
The entire city of Buffalo as well as major suburbs to the east and south have been placed under a travel ban.
The Buffalo area was experiencing a break in the heavy snow Saturday afternoon but additional lake effect snow bands are expected, which could drop up to three more feet of snow in some places.
Three deaths have been attributed to the storm.
The Bills played their Sunday game in Detroit instead of Highmark Stadium. Photos and videos of snow piling up in Highmark Stadium have been posted on the team's social media accounts.
