Chase Young will not be activated from injured reserve before Sunday's game.

The team has until Wednesday to activated Young or he will not be able to play this season.

Young hasn't made his debut since he tore his knee in November of 2011.

Young was expected to be activated prior to the game.

Jack Del Rio told reporters last week that Young still wasn't doing everything at full speed, despite the Commanders' cautious approach.

Young was the second overall pick in the 2020 draft and immediately established himself as a force to be reckoned with.

Young was named the NFL Defensive Freshman of the Year and a Pro Bowler after recording 44 tackles, 7.5 sacks, four passes defended, four forced turnovers and four fumbled possessions in 15 games as a first-year player.

The defensive tackle duo of Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen have been leading the way in rushing the passer this season. Both Payne and Allen have 4.5 sacks.

Montez Sweat is the Commanders' top outside pass-rusher with four sacks, followed by Efe Obada and Jamin Davis.

The Commanders are 16th in the NFL in sacks with 24 and could benefit greatly from Young's presence.

Next week, Young will be able to return when Washington plays Atlanta.

Even without Young, the Commanders have been one of the hottest teams in the league, winning four of their past five games, and they have a chance to get over the.500 mark with a win over Houston.
