England scored three tries in a stunning final eight minutes to steal a draw after being outplayed by New Zealand.

The All Blacks scored two tries in the first nine minutes, with Codie Taylor driving over at the back of a maul after the initial intercept score.

Early in the second half, Tuilagi was stopped just short of the try line as England fell 17-6 behind.

It looked like the tourists were out of sight when Rieko Ioane sprinted clear after a cross kick.

England roared back into life in the final 10 minutes as replacement Will Stuart scrambled over, Freddie Stewart scorched in out wide and Stuart burrowed over again in the final minute.

Marcus Smith's decision to kick the ball dead on the final play rather than chase a victory that had seemed unthinkable just a quarter of an hour earlier was greeted with some boos.

It was a strange end to a match that marked Owen Farrell's 100th appearance and the first meeting of the sides since the Rugby World Cup.

It's not likely to answer the questions surrounding either side after a year out from France.

New Zealand's fast start, England's fast finish

Rieko Ioane's score seemed to have put England out of the contest

England didn't have any hope of replicating their fast start in Yokohama.

Papali'i raced in under the posts after intercepting Jack van Poortvliet's attempt to feed Farrell.

The 21-year-old England scrum-half caught a glimpse of himself on the big screen as the camera cut to him under the post. It was a time to test the strength of the most experienced veteran.

When Taylor scored at the back of a rolling maul, England was in a hole.

The score was 14 points adrift after 10 minutes. They could have been defeated.

Ardie Savea collared him at the back of an understaffed ruck, forcing a turnover and, after a string of phases, Rieko Ioane dived over.

The referee spotted a neck-roll clearout by Ioane as New Zealand lined up a simple conversion.

After Farrell and JordieBarrett traded kicks, England were down 17-3 at the half.

After the England fly-half put Tuilagi through a hole with a deftly delayed pass, Smith was able to cut the deficit to 17-12.

The All Blacks seemed to have quashed the comeback after four minutes.

Mo'unga picked up the ball off the ground and punted it. The wing cut inside, halted England's defence and opened up a clear canter to the corner for the centre.

England came on strong after emptying the bench and New Zealand ran out of gas.

Stuart's pair of close-range scores came either side of a sweeping move that ended with Steward diving over as New Zealand, down to 14 men after BeaudenBarrett's yellow card, fell off tackles.

Eddie Jones and Ian Foster are going to have a hard time with the post-mortem.

New Zealand was at their best for most of the time.

They played fast in the head and hands. Their decision-making was swift and clear.

As their opponents faded, England's spirit and belief went up in smoke.

The hosts will know that they need to perform better against the best in the world.
