Ahead of the film's June 2023 release, the first real information roll out for Indiana Jones 5 has started. The real sendoff for Harrison Ford's treasure hunter has some new faces showing up. It didn't take long for people to suspect that Mikkelsen was going to be a villain.
In Indy 5, the actor will play the role of Voller, a Nazi scientist who works at NASA after World War II. Voller is based on a real life ex-Nazi and eventual NASA scientist. He is a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past. Something could make the world a better place. He wants to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones would also like to get his hands on it.
According to the film's co-writer, the moon-landing program was run by a group of ex-Nazis. The question is, how 'ex' are they? The Nazis have been fought by Indy more than any other character in the franchise, but they were not a priority for the US at the time. Pitting them against Indy in this film is meant to make him feel out of time.
The model of a hero is not the only thing that has changed. It's not just that they're looking for something where there's nothing up there, it's like Reno without the gambling. His enemies are behind it.
It sounds like it's retro in its own way. Since we know that Ford can throw a mean right hook, Indiana Jones 5 will deliver on that, and will hit theaters on June 30, 2023.
