The influence on venture capital may be headed in the opposite direction as micro funds increase their impact on the industry.
Micro funds are the funds that power the future of the industry. They help venture hubs take off, bring expertise and specialization to the market, and fill a role in the venture capital community that larger firms can't.
Many of them received their first dollars from a micro fund as they were investing out of a $7 million fund.
I wrote about the rise of micro funds in the U.S. before, but when Sweetwood contacted me about its new fund-of-funds strategy, I was interested. I did not know that the explosion of micro funds extended beyond the U.S. market, but I was told by the general partner of Sweetwood that he had been tracking it for a long time.
