The leader of North Korea, Kim Jung Un, has vowed to respond to nuclear threats with nuclear weapons.

Kim attended the launch with his daughter for the first time. Two people walk hand in hand at a test site. Kim's existence has been confirmed for the first time.

State media said that if the enemies continued to pose threats, the party and government would respond with nukes and all-out confrontation.

The Hwasong 17 missile was launched from the capital of North Korea and flew over Japan before landing in the waters west of Hokkaido.

A maximum altitude of 3,728 miles was reached by the missile according to the Japanese defense minister.

All of the US mainland would be included in the missile's range if the weight of the warhead was taken into account.

In the wake of Friday's missile launch, the U.S. B-1B bomber took part in joint exercises with South Korean and Japanese warplanes.

Kim said that he has a weapon that is capable of confronting the U.S. military.

The launch was condemned by the White House. The vice president convened an emergency meeting with leaders from Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Harris said that the launch was abrazen violation of several UN Security Council resolutions.

Harris said that it raised tensions in the region. We urge North Korea to stop further destabilizing acts.

The launch comes days after President Biden said the U.S., Japan and South Korea are "more aligned than ever" over North Korea's behavior.

Hours before Friday's launch, North Korea's foreign minister warned of "fiercer" military responses. She said that recent military drills with the U.S. and its allies in the region failed to contain North Korea.

Beijing has an obligation to try to make it clear to North Korea that it is not allowed to test-fire nuclear missiles, according to Biden.

The president said he wasn't sure if China could control the actions of North Korea, but he was confident that China wouldn't want to see North Korea engage in further escalatory means.

"We would have to take certain actions that would be more defensive for us, and it wouldn't be directed against us," Biden said. Sending a clear message to North Korea would be the goal.

We will defend our allies and American soil.

An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council is planned for Monday.
