Meeting its promise of a November launch, Apple this week activated its Emergency SOS via Satellite service for the U.S. and Canada, with more countries to come.

There were some new additions to the operating system this week as it works its way through the testing phase ahead of a public launch next month. We are about to head into the holiday shopping season so keep an eye out for great deals.

Testing Apple's New Emergency SOS via Satellite Feature

The Emergency SOS via Satellite feature allows users to send text messages to emergency services when they are outside the range of cellular and wi-fi coverage. For the first two years, the service is free in the US and Canada.

The service will be added to the UK in December.

Kuo: iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus Will Have Slower USB-C Ports Compared to Pro Models

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next generation of the Apple device will have a port with support for at least two types of peripherals. Faster data transfer speeds would be achieved by this.

While the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to have a USB-C port, they will be limited to a maximum speed of up to 480 Mbps, according to a report.

iOS 16.2 Will Let You Disable Wallpaper and Notifications for Always-On Display

The wallpaper and notifications can be hidden in Always-On display mode with the upcoming release of the latest version of the operating system. In Always-On mode, the Lock Screen has a solid black appearance, similar to many of the phones on the market today.

The "Show Wallpaper" and "Show Notifications" buttons can be found in the settings app under display and brightness.

Images of Unreleased 'Apple Magic Charger' Surface Online

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been images of a MagSafe accessory called the Apple Magic Charger. The accessory was supposed to be released by Apple.

The accessory has an embedded MagSafe charge that can be pushed out into a horizontal position. It looks like the same thing as Apple's discontinued Lightning dock.

Apple to Hold Black Friday Event Starting November 25

In the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia, and many other countries, Apple's annual four-day shopping event starts on November 25.
