Armaan Franklin spins and finishes off the lay-in (0:16)

Armaan Franklin took it himself for a Virginia Layup. There is a time and a place.

9:56 PM ET

In the team's first game since three players were killed in a campus shooting, Franklin scored a career-high 26 points.

The cancellation of the home game for Virginia was due to the players wearing sweatshirts that honored the victims from Sunday's shooting. A former University of Virginia football player has been charged with murder in the deaths of three people.

The winner of Friday's game between Illinois and UCLA will play the winner of Sunday's game between the University of Virginia and the University of California. The loser will face the winner in the loser's game.

The second half saw Virginia go on a 21-2 run.

Tony Bennett said that the big run gave Virginia a distance. It was disappointing that we couldn't stop them at the end.

Franklin was 7 of 12 from the field and 3 of 6 from the 3-point range.

Franklin said he knows his teammates are in a position to get him the ball. They can do it for themselves. It was just getting ready to shoot.

Keyonte George scored 20 points.

The Bears responded with an -8 run after they were down 62-40. The Bears used a full-court press and kept chipping away but Virginia held on.

Scott Drew said that they need to do a better job of getting easy buckets. We didn't get any stops for 10 minutes when we got them off of our defensive transition.

Kadin Shedrick had 17 points for the Cavaliers.
