According to Bill Barr, the Justice Department may have enough evidence to indict Donald Trump for his actions.

In an interview with PBS that aired Friday, Barr said that he thinks they have the basis for indicting the president.

I think they have the evidence that would check the box, according to the attorney.

A person for Trump did not reply immediately.

The interview was filmed before the Justice Department's probe into Trump's handling of government documents became public. The attorney general named a special counsel to investigate the former president.

Jack Smith, a veteran federal prosecutor registered to vote as an independent, will preside over investigations into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

In response to the appointment of a special counsel on Truth Social, Trump wrote that the Justice Department was full of "Trumphaters" and called it "disgraceful".

During his time as attorney general, Barr was once a close ally of Trump. The pair had a falling out after the 2020 election when Barr said the Justice Department had found no evidence of widespread fraud that would've impacted the election outcome. He resigned soon after.

The Justice Department was probably justified in raiding Mar-a-Lago, said Barr. Trump called Barr a weak and pathetic RINO.
